Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial Osteopathy is a distinct style or approach within the spectrum of Osteopathic Medicine. Firstly it is not specific to the skull and this approach can be used on any part of the body, joint or organ. Secondly, it is so exceptionally gentle that it can be used with new born babies, the sick or very frail elderly.

It differs from other osteopathic approaches in that the Osteopath simply holds the skull or an area of discomfort, supports and encourages the tissues to find a new point of balance relying upon the self recuperative mechanisms at work within the body to do the work. With very little actual input by the operator the results can be profound and the skills required takes many years to master. There is no cracking, crunching, pulling or rubbing with this approach. An interesting site describing more about this is Osteodoc.  There are numerous theories  underpinning this system including Biodynamic, Sutherland, Energetic  and DeJarnette (SOT). Dr Kingston uses blended approach making treatment more individualised to your specific needs.

Dr Kingston has been using cranial osteopathy for over 20 years and has taken extensive post graduate training with many very happy hours spent at the Osteopathic Centre for Children in London under the supervision of some of the most accomplished practitioners in the world.

Craniosacral therapy is basically cranial osteopathy that was initially taught to “non” osteopaths and has developed on its own pathway since. It has produced  some exceptional practitioners and Dr Kingston has studied with probably the best of them, Franklin Sills of the Karuna Institute.
